Marrakech. Interpol adopts a resolution to strengthen the global front against cybercrime

Gathered in Marrakech for their 93rd General Assembly, Interpol member states have adopted a key resolution calling for coordinated action to implement the new UN Convention on Cybercrime. This adoption follows directly from the call made by Hammouchi at the opening of the event for stronger global action against transnational cybercrime.

As the 93rd session of Interpol’s General Assembly continues behind closed doors in Marrakech, the international police organization announced that it has highlighted one of the most pressing challenges of the 21st century: the fight against cybercrime.

According to Interpol, the entry into force of the UN Convention on Cybercrime represents a decisive breakthrough. This text, the result of international negotiations, establishes for the first time a unified global framework designed to combat digital crime, whose scale and sophistication continue to grow.

Interpol stresses that the success of this convention will largely depend on the ability of states to cooperate. The organization believes that its own tools — secure networks, technical expertise and operational support — will play a strategic role in the concrete implementation of this framework. The General Assembly has therefore adopted a resolution calling on member countries to close ranks. It urges them to harmonize their approaches, systematically share relevant information through Interpol and ratify the Convention in order to speed up its application.

The resolution also calls on states to align their diplomatic actions with the real needs of frontline law enforcement, who are often the first to confront cyberthreats. Interpol emphasises that the fight against digital crime requires international coherence: diplomacy should support — not hinder — cross-border investigations. In this perspective, Interpol’s technical capabilities are expected to be fully integrated into UN efforts against crime in all its forms.

In Marrakech, the adopted resolution is an immediate response to the call made at the opening of the 93rd session of Interpol for stronger and more effective global coordination against transnational cybercrime. Delegations from more than 180 countries agree on a simple reality: no nation, even the most technologically advanced, can confront the explosive rise of cyberattacks alone. By joining Morocco’s call for united action, Interpol is sending a clear signal in favor of a more structured and more determined global mobilisation.
