Morocco’s Citizen-Focused Security Model Guided by the Vision of His Majesty the King

Thanks to the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco’s security approach now goes far beyond combating crime. It has evolved into a true partnership between the police and the public. This was emphasized on Tuesday in Marrakech by the Secretary-General of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, Mr. Mohammed Ben Ali Koman.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 93rd session of the General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), held from 24 to 27 November, Mr. Koman stressed that Morocco’s security institutions are working with determination to maintain a climate of stability that supports the Kingdom’s ongoing and dynamic development.
He praised the “relentless drive for modernization” that characterizes the Moroccan police, a commitment that fully aligns with the strategic vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, for a stronger, more prosperous and respected Morocco.
Mr. Koman underscored that serving citizens is at the heart of the Moroccan police’s mission, with particular attention paid to the protection of human rights and the preservation of individual dignity.
In this regard, he highlighted the growing success of the National Police Open Days, which have become a recurring event that strengthens the bond of trust between the public and law-enforcement officers. This initiative, he noted, is “unique” and stands as a model from which many Arab and foreign countries can draw inspiration.
The Secretary-General also recalled the strong international recognition enjoyed by Moroccan security institutions. Among the notable distinctions, he cited:
•The awarding of the Prince Naif Medal for Arab Security – First Class to Mr. Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance;
•The Grand Cross of Merit granted by Spain’s Civil Guard;
•Morocco’s election to the position of Interpol Vice-President for Africa.
According to Mr. Koman, hosting the 93rd Interpol General Assembly—an event marked by record participation—offers the international community a unique opportunity to observe Morocco’s pioneering security model, further enhancing international appreciation for Arab security systems.
Regionally, he reaffirmed that Morocco has long been a pillar of Arab security cooperation. The Kingdom hosts the Arab Organization for Social Defense Against Crime and now also the Arab Office for Civil Protection and Environmental Affairs, one of the specialized bodies of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers.
This decision, he explained, aligns seamlessly with the Royal vision of a comprehensive security approach—one that protects citizens, supports sustainable development and responds to escalating environmental challenges.
