Marrakech. Valdecy Urquiza announces new strategic tools for Interpol to confront global criminal threats

At the opening of Interpol’s 93rd General Assembly in Marrakech, Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza unveiled the organization’s new technological capabilities and praised Morocco’s commitment to international security cooperation.

The 93rd General Assembly of Interpol opened in Marrakech under the banner of innovation and strengthened global police coordination. For Valdecy Urquiza, the organization’s Secretary General, holding this event in Morocco marks a crucial milestone for the international law enforcement community.

This year, 181 countries and more than 1,000 delegates, including 25 ministers and vice-ministers as well as 82 police chiefs, are taking part in the proceedings. Over four days, discussions will focus on current priorities: cybercrime, organized crime, emerging criminal networks, information-sharing mechanisms, and the growing importance of technological capabilities.

At the heart of this edition, Interpol is launching Nexus, a next-generation tool enabling member countries to share information in real time. This new capability aims to accelerate operational cooperation and enhance the responsiveness of law enforcement agencies facing transnational criminal organizations.

Another major advancement announced in Marrakech is Interpol’s first artificial intelligence tool dedicated to police services. This innovation will improve data analysis, criminal reporting, and investigative support—an unprecedented development that marks a significant transformation in international policing.

Valdecy Urquiza also expressed Interpol’s gratitude to the Moroccan authorities for their continuous support. Morocco, he emphasized, is not only the host of this General Assembly but also a “very active” and “strongly committed” member of the organization’s activities.

The Secretary General concluded by thanking the Kingdom for its leadership in security cooperation:

“On behalf of Interpol and the entire law enforcement community gathered here today, I wish to thank the Moroccan authorities for their tremendous support.”
