During the 93rd Interpol General Assembly held in Marrakech, Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, the organization’s president, emphatically praised Morocco’s central role in the international security architecture. Speaking immediately after the opening address delivered by Abdellatif Hammouchi, Al-Raisi described the Kingdom as a “country of security and peace,” emphasizing that its stability and hospitality make it an essential global actor today.
For the president of Interpol, Morocco represents far more than a host country. It is a strategic bridge linking three key regions: Africa, the Arab world and Europe. This unique position makes the Kingdom a vital crossroads for security exchanges, facilitating intercontinental cooperation and the circulation of sensitive information. The decision to hold this 93rd session in Marrakech — after a first edition in 2007 — thus reflects renewed confidence from the international community in Morocco’s security institutions.
Al-Raisi also described Morocco as a “great school” of international police cooperation, highlighting its decisive contribution to strengthening law enforcement capacities across numerous African and Arab states. He recalled that the Kingdom regularly shares its expertise in combating terrorism, organized crime and cybercrime — three areas in which Moroccan competencies excel. He further commended Morocco’s active engagement in joint operations, notably Operation Neptune, as well as its substantial contribution to Interpol’s global databases.
The Interpol president then outlined the organization’s vision for the coming years, stressing that “security is a shared responsibility that cannot be divided.” He identified cybercrime and transnational criminal networks as the main challenges of the moment, calling for enhanced cooperation and a more systematic use of artificial intelligence to anticipate emerging threats. He also reviewed his term in office, marked by deep modernization within Interpol, including a remarkable increase of more than 50% in data records over just four years and greater diversity within the organization.
Al-Raisi also reaffirmed Interpol’s full confidence in Morocco’s ability to successfully host major upcoming events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup. For him, these events further confirm the Kingdom’s stature as a stable, reliable and indispensable actor in regional and global security.
Through this powerful tribute, Interpol thus reaffirms Morocco’s standing as an international reference committed to a modern, collective and forward-looking approach to global security challenges.
