Francisco Pardo Piqueras: “Security relations between Morocco and Spain are an example of efficiency and cooperation”

The security relations between Morocco and Spain are “an example of efficiency and cooperation,” stated the Director General of the Spanish National Police, Francisco Pardo Piqueras, on Wednesday in Marrakech.

“At the bilateral level, relations between the Spanish National Police and Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security are excellent in the fight against terrorism, organized crime, and human trafficking networks,” Pardo Piqueras told the press following his talks with the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, on the sidelines of the 93rd session of the INTERPOL General Assembly.

“We are very satisfied with the security cooperation we maintain,” he said, highlighting the importance of “strengthening information exchange, conducting joint operations, and combating organized crime and terrorism ever more effectively.”

Addressing the risks and ensuring the security of both countries requires “a joint effort based on two fundamental principles: respect and trust,” the Spanish official emphasized.

Pardo Piqueras also praised the “magnificent” organisation in Morocco of INTERPOL’s supreme governing body (24–27 November), which will have “very positive” effects on the joint effort to counter global security threats.

The INTERPOL General Assembly provides an opportunity for member states to establish partnerships and share their experience.

This session, which brings together nearly one thousand delegates from 179 countries — including 82 police chiefs — addresses various issues, notably the identification and dismantling of transnational organized crime, the dismantling of transnational fraud centres, the strengthening of INTERPOL’s global policing capabilities, and the promotion of women’s role in law enforcement.
