Italy. Shocking Remarks by Police Officers Mocking Moroccan Abderrahim Fakir as He Lay Dying

“If he dies, we’re going to have a lot of fun,” “I don’t care,” and even “Come on, die!” These chilling remarks were captured by a police officer’s body camera as Abderrahim Fakir, 42, was pinned to the ground and crying out for help.

Italy’s ANSA news agency released the video footage on Wednesday, October 28, revealing the remarks made by two police officers during the arrest that resulted in the death of Moroccan national Abderrahim Fakir on July 19 in Bologna.

Following these revelations, one of the officers apologized to the victim’s family and his police force, acknowledging that he had made “unacceptable” remarks.

The family’s lawyer, Fabio Anselmo, filed a new complaint with the Bologna prosecutor’s office, calling for more serious criminal charges than involuntary manslaughter.

The forensic report submitted to prosecutors concluded that Fakir died of acute respiratory failure, with several contributing factors, including being restrained on the ground.

Six individuals are under preliminary investigation, including the two police officers and four Red Cross emergency responders.
