Massad Boulos: “The Sahara is Moroccan, and Trump will soon open an American consulate there”

In an interview broadcast on October 16, 2025, on the Saudi channel Acharq News, Donald Trump’s adviser for Africa and the Middle East confirmed the U.S. administration’s intention to open a consulate in the Moroccan Sahara during President Trump’s second term. Praising “the historic positions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI” toward Algeria, Massad Boulos recalled that Donald Trump had always emphasized “a lasting solution” to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.

Massad Boulos recalled that Donald Trump had always insisted on “a lasting solution” to the Sahara issue, while also praising “the historic positions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.” He described the King’s most recent speech as “historic,” particularly for its call for a settlement “acceptable to all parties,” and highlighted the need for renewed brotherly relations between Morocco and Algeria.

Referring to the upcoming United Nations Security Council session on the MINURSO mandate, the adviser voiced his optimism and his hope for the adoption of a definitive and lasting solution. “We count on the nobility and the historic stance of His Majesty the King,” he said, also noting the positive exchanges he recently had in Algiers with the Algerian president on this matter.

By mentioning this recent meeting, he revealed that Algeria, too, seeks a conclusive resolution and is open to improving its relations with Morocco. “They remain brothers and neighbors, united by a shared history,” he added, emphasizing the need to turn the page on a conflict that “has lasted nearly fifty years.”

Massad Boulos concluded by thanking the United States’ European partners – including France, the United Kingdom, Spain, and the European Union – for their role in pursuing a peaceful settlement. “We are more optimistic than ever that this issue will, inshallah, find a positive and lasting outcome,” he said.
