In a message addressed to His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the occasion of Throne Day, US President Donald J. Trump reaffirmed the recognition by the United States of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and its support for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative “as the only basis for a just and lasting settlement of this dispute.”
“I also wish to reaffirm that the United States of America recognizes Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, and that we support the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative—serious, credible, and realistic—as the only basis for a just and lasting settlement of this dispute,” President Trump emphasized in his message to the Sovereign.
Expressing congratulations on behalf of the United States to HM the King and to the Moroccan people, the American President stressed that “the United States greatly values the strong and enduring partnership that binds us to Morocco. Together, we are working to advance our shared priorities for peace and security in the region, notably by building on the Abraham Accords, fighting terrorism, and expanding trade cooperation that benefits both Americans and Moroccans.”
“I look forward to continuing our collaboration to promote regional stability, security, and peace,” President Trump concluded.
