A senior official from Spain’s National Police who took part in the investigation into the August 17, 2017 Barcelona attacks praised, on Tuesday before the Congress of Deputies, the “impeccable” cooperation of the Moroccan authorities, according to the news agency Europa Press.
Testifying before the parliamentary commission tasked with examining the attacks, the section chief of the Barcelona Provincial Information Brigade, who was in office at the time of the events, stated that the investigation conducted by Moroccan services was carried out with “professionalism, rigor, and in strict compliance with legal procedures.”
He said it was comparable to investigations conducted in Spain or in other European countries, the same source reported.
The official specified that the collaboration took place within the framework of an international letter rogatory ordered by the Spanish judiciary, particularly for the collection of identification elements related to the main suspect in the attacks.
Highlighting the quality of coordination between the two countries in the field of counterterrorism, the security official described Moroccan-Spanish security cooperation as “decidedly good,” Europa Press concluded.
