Morocco Sends Two Canadairs to Portugal

Summer wildfires continue to wreak havoc across Europe, and Morocco has stepped in to provide crucial support where it is most needed. The Kingdom is dispatching two Canadair aircraft to Portugal, following Lisbon’s activation of the bilateral cooperation mechanism after two of its own planes broke down.

The announcement was made by Portugal’s Ministry of the Interior in a communiqué on August 11, 2025. According to the same source, the two Moroccan aircraft—expected to arrive Monday—will be integrated into Portugal’s firefighting operations until the end of the week.

Initially, Lisbon had requested assistance from Spain, but Madrid was unable to respond favorably due to the surge of wildfires on its own territory.

This deployment highlights Morocco’s solidarity and operational readiness in regional crisis management, as well as the importance of bilateral cooperation mechanisms in tackling natural disasters that increasingly transcend borders.
